Last night’s rubber match between the Yanks and the Orioles was a classic in its own way.

Girardi got himself ejected, perhaps giving his team fire to rally and knock in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

I was able to catch a few words between both Girardi and Guccione, the home plate manager. Some words I caught Girardi yelling were about wanting an explanation of the call and Guccione explaining with an animated gesture of “1 reason, 2 reason.”

Girardi was not satisfied with the explanation, and Guccione then said “get the f*** out of here.” Girardi then went to the first base umpire to argue too before walking out to a standing ovation.

After Giambi was called out on a ridiculous “foul tip,” Abreu proceed to walk on five pitches and then Robbie Cano punched a single between third and short stop to bring in Matsui from second base. The ball hit by Cano was slow enough to give Matsui enough time to round the bases, but hard enough to get past the short stop. 2-1 Yankees, second straight victory, and the series from the Orioles.

The Yankees are still 7.5 games out of first, but I will take anything any day. Just give the Yankees time. A-Rod has given the offense some spark, and Girardi has to be credited too for igniting the offense over its last chance to score.

This weekend we see the Yankees at home against the Mariners. The last time they faced each other was the first weekend of May and the Yankees swept the Mariners (if I remember correctly). We will see Pettitte on the mound against the Mariners’s “ace” Erik Bedard. Let’s make it three straight!
