Joe Torre was not selected by the Veteran’s committee to become a member of the Hall of Fame. He fell very short of the 48 votes needed for selection, only achieving 19 votes out of a possible 64. No player was selected by the committee who started playing after World War II.
However, former Yankees 2B Joe “Flash” Gordon was selected. Gordon began his career with the Yankees in 1938, joining a team boasting future Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio; and that team went on to win a championship. Gordon finished his career in 1948 with the Cleveland Indians, helping them to their last World Series Championship.
