Given the current condition of the US Automobile industry, former Yankees sponsor General Motors has backed out of its sponsorship deal, allowing Toyota and Audi to put their names on one of the iconic teams in sports.  Toyota and Audi will be provided with sign space in the new stadium, something GM was using to promote its Chevrolet brand last season.

GM has also dropped sponsorship deals with the Pittsburgh Pirates, golfer Tiger Woods and will refrain from running ads during the 2009 Super Bowl, which typically sell at an average price of $2.5 Million for 30 seconds.
