In a whisper response to the Yankees shouting this offseason, the Red Sox added two free agents to their squad this weekend, picking up pitcher Brad Penny from the Dodgers and reacquiring catcher Josh Bard. Penny was held back by injuries last season, managing only a 6-9 record with a 6.27 ERA. For his career, Penny is 94-75 with a 4.06 ERA. His contract is for a guaranteed $5 Million but includes a possible $3 Million in performance bonuses.
Bard is expected to compete for the back-up catcher role in spring training. His contract is not guaranteed.
