The Yankees have quite a few players announced on the World Baseball Classic provisional rosters for their respective countries.

Most prominently named are Alex Rodriguez for the Dominican Republic and Derek Jeter for USA. Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, Damaso Marte, Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras were named to the Dominican roster.

Rosters must be trimmed from its current provisional 45 to 28 by February 24. There’s a good chance some of the names, especially Cano and Cabrera will be removed. Cano and Cabrera are coming off subpar seasons and Cabrera, especially, has to fight for his starting job with Brett Gardner, unless the Yankees are able to get a center fielder before February 13.

Japan is serious about defending their title.
