ESPN is reporting that Alex Rodriguez might not have surgery on his hip. Instead, the Yankees and Rodriguez plan to take some time to consider their options. GM Brian Cashman said A-Rod would be out 4 months if he had surgery. The first reports this morning said he could be out for only 2 1/2 months (10 weeks.)
“We’re collectively trying to figure out what is best to do,” Cashman said. “We don’t want to rush into it. We want to digest it.”
Apparently the team wants to try out treating it without surgery in an attempt to push the surgery until the end of the season. I agree with the decision to take some time and consider the options. Four month recovery means that A-Rod is out until the beginning of July, and he’ll have to play catch up getting into mid-season form.
