The Yankees got back to their 2009 Spring Training Mantra – lose close games in the later innings – today, losing to the Atlanta Braves 3-1 for the second time this week.
Chien-Ming Wang got the start today and went three innnings. Despite a HR allowed in the first inning, Wang looked sharp and delivered most of his pitches to their intended targets. In fact, 27 of his 33 pitches were strikes. Wang also had two K’s and allowed no walks.
The Yankees tied up the score on a Justin Leone RBI in the bottom of the first, but that was pretty much it. The team managed only 6 hits on the night and three walks, squandering 18 chances with runners in scoring position.
I know its only spring training, but the Yankees have now lost 7 of their last 9 games.
