Or at least that’s how I imagine Bob Sheppard would do it.

With the news that Alex Rodriguez will be out for 6-9 weeks, there’s a good chance that manning third base for the Yankees will be journeyman Cody Ransom.  Ransom is 33 and in his eighth big league season.    He has a career batting average of .251, with 7 HR’s and 24 RBI’s, so he doesn’t seem to be much of a hitter.

However, with the Yankees, Ransom has a batting average of .302, with 4 HR’s and 8 RBI’s and is doing well this spring.  Since getting full-time duty when Rodriguez left to join the Dominican National team, Ransom has been hitting over .350 with two doubles, 1 RBI and 4 runs scored.

In fact, Ransom is the only Yankee player ever to hit back-to-back home runs in his first two at bats.

Unless the Yankees plan to spend more money to get someone else, we can assume he’ll be manning third for at least 6-9 weeks…  That means until somewhere between April 20 and May 11.

In the meantime, take a few minutes to learn about our new third baseman.  This article, by Ian O’Connor details a little of Ransom’s past.  Also, check out the man’s 60 inch vertical jump.  He is quite the athlete!
