The New York Post reported yesterday that if Yanks closer Mariano Rivera was injured for a significant period of time, Joba Chamberlain would take his role as the closer.

The Post cited three Yankees officials, who said Joba would be the choice because of his tempermant – he would be able to control the pressure, and his pitching skills.

Seems like a smart back-up plan to me.  I can’t think of anyone else in the bullpen that I would trust more then Joba to close out games and preserve wins.
