Chien-Ming Wang continued the string of five straight strong starts by Yankee pitchers by defeating the team he had a Listfranc injury last year, the Houston Astros 4-1 last night. Wang yielded one run on three hits over five innings, striking out two. Phil Coke allowed one hit in one inning. Brett Tomko, Jon Albaladejo, and Jose Veras all pitched well, but depending on how you want to define Veras. He walked two batters, but neither scored.
The offense was a little quiet last night, so there isn’t much to report. The Yankees scored two runs in the seventh behind an RBI groundout from Melky Cabrera and a hit by Angel Berroa. Robbie Cano and Jose Molina both had two hits, and Eric Duncan had a 2-RBI night.
With last night’s win, the Yankees are now 11-8-1 this spring.
AJ Burnett will face his old team tonight under the lights at George M. Steinbrenner Field ofor a 7:15 p.m. ET start.
