I hope this becomes a trend.
CC Sabathia for 8 innings. Mariano Rivera to close the victory.
That’s exactly what happened with the game yesterday against the Cincinnati Reds, with the Yankees winning 4-1.
Continuing to tune up for his dual Opening Day honors, CC Sabathia worked 7 2/3 innings, limiting Cincinnati to one run on four hits. He walked none and struck out seven. Rivera only needed five pitches to get his men out.
Derek Jeter led off the game with a double to left-center and scored on Mark Teixeira’s single. Jorge Posada scored a fourth-inning run on an error, and Xavier Nady came home on a passed ball. Jeter knocked in a run with a groundout later in the frame.
The Yankees will allow their long relievers to pitch on Saturday, taking looks at Brett Tomko, Alfredo Aceves and Dan Giese consecutively in a 1:05 p.m. start against the Braves in Lake Buena Vista.
