Tex, facing his old team for the first time as a Yankee, had two hits, including a solo homer in the 5th inning. Xavier Nady and Melky Cabrera both went 3 for 4. Cabrera had 3 singles and one run. Nady had three singles and one RBI.

Three pitchers competeted for the long relief role today. Brett Tomko strengthened his chances by pitching three scoreless innings, with one strikeout and one walk. Al Aceves also pitched three innings, allowing one hit and run, and one walk with one strikeout. Dan Giese was off this afternoon, allowing three runs to score in 2.2 innings pitched. Edwar Ramirez closed the game for the save.

The Yankees face the Pirates in Tampa at 1:15 with AJ Burnett making the start.

The Yankees are now 18-10-1.
