The Yankees won their last Grapefruit League game, defeating the Phillies, 8-5.

Mark Teixeira drilled an RBI single to right in the first inning, then blasted his third home run of the spring — a two-run shot — in the third. Nick Swisher and Cody Ransom added RBIs in the third inning. Hideki Matsui crushed a two-run homer to right-center in the bottom of the fourth.

In his final tuneup start before Opening Day on Monday, CC Sabathia worked 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out five in the 70-pitch (44 for strikes) outing, giving up one home run, and finished with a spring ERA of 4.26. The lefty was struck by a comebacker by Jason Ellison in the second inning, but he stayed in the game.

The Yankees have completed their run of the Grapefruit League, traveling north to New York for a workout on Thursday, followed by two exhibition games against the Cubs on Friday and Saturday. Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang will make the first start at the new Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees’ Grapefruit record was 22-10-1.

I’m hoping the momentum from the spring training season will carry on into the regular season.
