Its not very often that Mariano Rivera blows a tie or a lead.  Just one night after striking out the side in the ninth inning to get the Yankees into extra inning against the Tampa Bay Rays, Rivera allowed 2 back-to-back home runs to Carl Crawford and Evan Longoria and gave the Rays a 8-6 win over the slumping Yankees.

It was the first time in Rivera’s career that he allowed back-to-back HRs and the Yankees have now lost 5 in a row for the first time since May25-29, 2007.

Andy Pettitte got the start and had a rocky 1st inning allowing a lead off homer to Jason Bartlet and a two-out homer to Carlos Pena.  He ended up allowing 5 ER in 6 IP, raising his ERA to 4.38.  Pettitte also had 5 strikeouts.

I’m just hoping A-Rod can spark some life into this team.
