After a great victory on Friday night, yesterday was a meltdown. Especially against such an awful pitcher like Adam Eaton. These feel-good emotions were erased quickly as the O’s hammered the Yankees 12-5.

Last night’s starting pitcher was awful. Phil Hughes lasted just 1.2 innings, allowed eight runs, on eight hits, walked two, and did not strike out a batter. He threw 53 pitches, 33 for strikes. All eight runs came in a nightmare eight-run second, that was capped off by an Aubrey Huff three-run homer.

Hughes was not helped by several boneheaded plays (Swisher, for instance) in the second inning.

Edwar Ramirez followed Hughes and allowed three runs on four hits in three innings of work. Ramirez was once again pretty ineffective, allowing homers to Lou Montanez and Nick Markakis.

One of if not the only bright spots of tonight’s game was Jonathan Albaladejo’s performance. He threw two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.

Brett Tomko made his first appearance as a Yankee and was shaky. He allowed a leadoff homer to Adam Jones, and then allowed two more men to reach before getting out of the inning.

Three Yankees cleared the fences as Johnny Damon, Mark Teixeira, and Nick Swisher all homered.

1:35pm today (two hours from now), Joba Chamberlain and his bursted blood-vessel in his thumb will take the mound. The Yankees hope to even the season series at 3 games apiece today with the beautiful day, a special Mother’s Day for me and my brother…
