After Brett Gardner his his first career MLB Home run last night, some unknown Yankee pranked him.  According to the Journal News Beat Writer Peter Abraham, Gardner got back to the clubhouse after the game and saw the ball waiting for him in his locker.

Inscribed on the ball was “First career home run, solo shot off Sam Richman for Brett Garder. 05-14-09.”

Now, the actual writing should have been “First career home run, solo shot off Scott Richmond for Brett Gardner, 5-13-09.”  Abraham wrote that when Gardner saw the ball he said “I hope that’s not really the ball.”

Brett Tomko ended up locating the real ball and Gene Monahan, the official team inscriber will take care of business for Gardner.

I have no evidence to prove this, but based on what I have seen so far this season, I am going to go out on a limb and say Nick Swisher was involved in this somehow.
