In his first appearance this season, Angels ace John Lackey threw only two pitches before being ejected. Yes, you read that right, two.
In his first game back this season from being on the DL, Lackey seemed to aim his first pitch at Texas Rangers lead-off man Ian Kinsler – it sailed behind Kinsler’s head, narrowly missing. The second pitch was also inside and hit Kinsler.
Kinsler dropped his bat and headed to first and home-plate umpire Bob Davidson tossed Lackey. Texas went on to win 5-3.
Apparently there is some history of purpose thrown pitches and fights between these two teams and that most likely led to Davidson throwing Lackey out. In my opinion, Lackey had every intention to hit Kinsler with the first pitch, but missed and made up for it with the second.
