The Yankees announced Friday that pitcher Chien-Ming Wang has been activated to help their bullpen.  To make room for Wang, relief pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Joe Girardi thinks Wang will be a good addition to the bullpen, especially after it was forced to go 8 innings Thursday night after Joba Chamberlain took a line drive to the right knee and left the game in the first.

Wang has been doing well enough in his rehab pitching assignments to earn his was back to the big leagues.  After missing the last 3 1/2 months of the 2008 season, Wang was 0-3 in his first three starts this season and had an atrocious 34.50 ERA.   He didn’t make it past the second inning of any outing and was put on the DL with a silly “injury” to get him off the roster and into pitching rehab in Tampa.

The skipper said Joba should be able to make his next start as planned, but Wang could be an option if he is needed.

We will most likely see Wang tonight as the first reliever.  I hope he brings back the ’07-’08 pitching…
