Today is a big day for Chien-Ming Wang.  Just two days after the birth of a son, Justin, Wang will pitch in the most important game of his career-to-date.  Wang is 0-4 this season with a 14.43 ERA., but when he starts games his ERA is 21.60.

He was put on the DL after he started 0-3 with an atrocious 35.00 ERA.  Since then, he pitched well coming out of the bullpen and lowered his ERA, but had his first start on June 10 and lasted only 2 and 2/3 innings.

Both Brian Cashman and Joe Girardi have said that Wang will not be in the rotation much longer if this start is not good.  If Wang pitches badly, he will be sent to the bullpen to be the team’s long reliever, but will most likely not be signed in the off season – especially considering the talent the Yankees have at the Triple-A level.

Wang has been a great pitcher for the Yankees, winning 19 games in 2006 and 2007, but has seemed to lose his confidence as of late.  I am pulling for him to do well tonight.  He needs it.
