Oakland comes back into town this weekend for a 4 game series that was supposed to be a 3 game series, but one game was rained out back in April, forcing a reschedule for Thursday night. Everyone except AJ Burnett will pitch in this series, while the Yankees will face a slew of losing-record pitchers.
The Yankees are 7-1 against Oakland dating back to last season. The Athletics are floundering this season at the bottom of the AL West with a 40-53 record, while the Yankees sit at the top of the AL (and AL East, obviously) with a 57-37 record.
The Yankees have won 6-straight to lead the Red Sox in the AL East by two games – actually their largest lead of the season. I see no reason why the Yankees can’t post their second 10-game win streak of the season by sweeping the A’s this weekend. Worst case scenario, they split the two games or win 3 of 4.
